To Create Jobs, Build Public Transit, Not Highways →
azspot: If we’d spent as much federal stimulus money on public transportation as we spent on highways, we would have created twice as much work and put a bigger dent in the unemployment rate. That’s the analysis of stimulus spending by Smart Growth America, the Center for Neighborhood Technology and U.S. PIRG, the public-policy lobbying group. Smart Growth America found that every billion...

When checking on my Amazon shipment, here is what the tracking history says: Delay in delivery due to weather or natural disaster. Isn’t there an enormous difference between a delay in weather and a delay in natural disaster? I mean. I get it. They want to group “weather related” delays together. But c’mon. You’d think that Amazon would want to distinguish a little...

An Exercise
Though I have no idea why I decided to write all of this down, it all sort of just flowed in the middle of a of a free form exercise. I went back and fixed some grammar and got my mom to edit it a bit more. Here is what I wrote. (Warning: in Word this little exercise comes out to about 7 pages.) When I was growing up in Russia as a young girl, it was incredibly hard to get any kind of music. But...

Writing
Writing two stories at once is very strange. Right now I’m writing a children’s fantasy story and a screwball comedy. I’m equally excited about both but it’s so damned hard to focus. Suggestions are welcome. How do you write two stories at once?

I donated.
I don’t make a lot of money. You don’t need to give a lot of money. Just give something to an organization you like. It’ll make a difference.

Part 26
Ok well in continuation with this off the top of my head story that I’ve been working on, here is the next part. It’s weird to post a really long story in parts. There’s a certain amount of pressure to actually write something, whether it’s any good or not. But also, it forces you to be fearless with your own work - and to say that it’s okay to change something in the...

Dr. Grigori - Part 3
Apparently there’s more… “And she has never had an epileptic fit before? That’s surprising,” he slyly added. As Grigori said this, the woman’s fit began to ease up. She was now just only occasionally jerking on the ground. “There, there,” Grigori said. “It’s okay,” he said in English. “You’re doing great,” he said in Russian. “You’re okay,” he said in English again. He really...

Dr. Grigori Pt. 2
Here’s the next part of this little story. God know where it’s going but it’s kind of fun to just free write it…… “Great,” the man said. “Tell him that she has never had a seizure before.” The little girl repeated what the man said and Grigori nodded his head. Grigori furrowed his brows and put his hand on the woman’s shoulder to try and see if that would do...

Kindergarten TV show filmed at Upper Nyack...
So I know that this series is from 2001 but I just saw it for the very first time while I was at home in Nyack over the holidays. At first, all I knew was that I was watching a tv show on HBO about kindergarteners. But something about  either the filming style of what I was watching, or the interactions of the 5 and 6 year-olds themselves, compelled me to just keep watching until the very end when...

Dr. Grigori - Part 1
Still taking a little break from a bigger story…trying to not be scared of Act 2. Act 2 is terrifying for me. I don’t want to mess up. Maybe I should stop thinking about messing up with Act 2 and I should just write it. In the mean time, I started another short little story…which is really an off shoot of a screenplay from a while back. Hopefully Part 2 will be done tomorrow,...

Russia! Magazine
Just stumbled upon this pretty cool website / website for a magazine called Russia!. I’ve been thinking more and more about how many literary journals and literary websites there are out there, but I know of very few that have anything to do with Russian / American literature. Anyway, this magazine thing looks pretty cool and hip and interesting. If anyone knows any more interesting Russia...

Oooooh. There are so many music websites that come out at the end of the year (or at the very beginning of the new year) with their favorite albums, musicians, songs, etc. But I love The Hype Machine and the way that they’re doing their top 50 is pretty cool. Just tune in every day of this week to stream the full albums in their entirety. Today was 50-41. Tomorrow, 40-31.
